BIM&CO creation assistant

This content is created via a creation assistant, or for some software, via a specialised plugin that automatise the upload functions.

The creation assistant can be accessed via the top menu:

You can create 3 categories of object:

  • Generic objects
  • Official manufacturer objects (if you are a manufacturer)
  • Manufacturer objects (non-certified)

Depending on your profile, or your rights, the first window of the assistant can offer different possibilities.

Then the assistant offers 9 steps for the creation, these are not all mandatory and can be followed in any order.

The first step consists in naming the object, and entering a description for each supported language.

The revision index informs the user of the modifications made to the object, and it is managed by functions of the plugin used to update the object.

Here you can provide links to product pages relative to the object.
You can then move on to the next step by clicking on the arrow or by clicking directly on the step number you want to go to.

Entering tags

It is strongly advised to enter tags that can be used to better define the purpose of your object.
Links: SeeAbout Objects/Tags.
If the tag you want does not exist, you can create it , it will then be moderated by the platform. This moderation is necessary to optimise the management of tags (different spellings for example) and remove inappropriate tags.

Choosing the BIM&CO classification

The choice of a node in the BIM&CO classification allows the platform to propose / suggest properties that are normally useful in this product class and to manage the IFC export of your object. These properties and settings for IFC are stored in the BIM&CO database. The insertion of the relative parameters in the object requires the use of Smart Download.

To chose a class, you simply have to click on the chosen class to select it. If you click on another class after a first selection, it will replace your first selection.

Only one class can be selected.
It is not mandatory to chose a BIM&CO class.
Links: See About BIM&CO Objects/Classification.

Pictures of the object

To associate pictures to your object, you can either select pictures from the explorer and drag and drop them into the allocated area inside the dotted lines, or chose pictures in your library by going to
A default picture must be chosen. To erase a picture, select it and click on the red button to erase it.

Uploading a model

LODs

You can indicate the LOD of your object (LOD 100 to LOD 500).

Entering the properties

At this step, you will be able to:

  • Associate properties to your object by selecting them in the list provided according to the class of the object.
  • Create new properties if those you are looking for are not on the list.
  • Describe your properties in various languages so your objects can be used in different countries.
  • Share your new properties with your work group.
  • Propose your properties for adoption by the community.

Here you will enter the properties you want to associate to your object. For more clarity, they are organised by categories. These properties are stored in the database of the platform and inserted in the object via Smart Download.

BIM&CO properties are a collection of standard properties gathered to encourage their use and thus promote the interoperability of digital model data.

If the properties you wish to put in your object are not in the proposed list, you can define them. When you define a user property, you have the choice to either only share it within your group, or propose it to the community who can then decide to add it to the BIM&CO list.

The properties selection page consists of two zones:

One is for the choice of properties proposed by the platform, The other is to select or define user properties. Depending on the class of your object according to the BIM&CO classification, the platform proposes a given number of preselected properties. They correspond to standardised properties (IFC, local or international standards, etc.) or uses (properties required by standard professional software, etc.).

You can chose to include all or part of these properties, or none of them.

Variations or type Some properties depend on the type of object, that is to say they change depending on the reference of your object. For these properties, you have to tick the box "Variation?". The values of these properties for the different types of the object are then entered at the next step.

Creating a User Property

Choice of the field:
You must first chose a field in which to place the property. You can use a field proposed by the platform, or one yourself and your work group have created. You can also create this field here

Collaborating to standardise the properties of the objects

At this stage you have the possibility to propose your property to the community so it can be added to the BIM&CO list. You must provide as much information as possible to allow the platform experts to evaluate the relevance of this addition. If needed a discussion can be opened on this property to gather the opinions of experts from the community.

Entering properties for different types

The properties you have marked as "Variable" at the previous step are displayed in this table.

Entering the data in Excel: To make data entry easier, you can use Excel. To do so, you click on "Export to Excel", and an Excel spreadsheet opens up. You can enter you data or copy-paste it from another spreadsheet. Once you data has been entered in excel, select the area…

Collaborating to create an object: Definition of authorisations

The BIM&CO platform offers many collaboration possibilities, in particular working in group on the creation of an object.

To be able to collaborate with others on the creation of an object, you must define the members of the creation team and define the rights of each team member.
