French designer and manufacturer of smoke and ventilation ducts Joncoux<\/a><\/em>, has decided to set up its own library<\/a> of BIM objects.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier, Technical Director at Joncoux<\/a>, tells us more about the manufacturer’s journey to BIM, the challenges encountered, and why they chose to distribute their objects on the bimandco.com platform<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO :<\/strong>  Hello Herv\u00e9, can you tell us about yourself?<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier :<\/strong>  Hello! I am Herv\u00e9 Vautier, Technical Director at Joncoux<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO : <\/strong>Why did you switch to BIM at Joncoux? <\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier :<\/strong>  We have developed a solution for collective housing, both new and renovation. These homes are designed using BIM. This is a request from certain trades and it can open the door to even more design offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO :<\/strong> How did you go about implementing this project?<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We started by carrying out an audit of certain design offices to assess the need and the necessary formats. Then we did a refresher course on the subject of BIM, via a training course given by the CSTB in Paris. This was followed by a trip to a BIM exhibition where I was able to meet potential players. Following this, we drew up a set of specifications and issued a call for tenders to create and put our BIM objects online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creation of models and the signature with a hosting platform took place in 2018, before an update of our product during a major evolution in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO :<\/strong> What obstacles did you encounter when you switched to BIM? <\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier :<\/strong> We hesitated to internalise the object creation process. The investment in people and software did not seem relevant for the first family of products under BIM. We had to provisionally acquire equipment to be able to appreciate the work carried out by our partner BIM&CO<\/a>. A second audit with the Design Offices was necessary to ensure that our library met their expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO :<\/strong> How did you choose the bimandco.com BIM data and object distribution platform?<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier :<\/strong> By asking design offices in our field about the platforms used. By making models and sometimes evaluating potential partners on site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


BIM&CO :<\/strong> What are the advantages of distributing your BIM objects via a library? <\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herv\u00e9 Vautier :<\/strong> Design offices are autonomous in their choice of objects at the pre-study stage of a project. At this stage, the design offices use their favourite library and when we are present in the pre-design stage, we are more likely to be the supplier selected in the final project. When our objects are user-friendly and well-designed (which is the case with our current partner BIM&CO<\/a>), the ease of use creates user loyalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
